Obituary: Joan McCullough

Former borough resident, who cherished the Jersey Shore, dies.

Joan L. McCullough (nee Lindstrom) passed into Heavenly Arms on March 16, age 88, at the United Methodist Community at the Shores Hospice Unit, Ocean City, N.J.

She is survived by her loving husband, William Carson McCullough of Ocean City (formerly Haddonfield), stepchildren Lorri (Richard) MacFeeters of Haddonfield, Linda (George) McCool of Blue Bell, Pa., and Russell (Lori) McCullough of Horsham, Pa. and numerous grand and great-grandchildren.

Joan raised her two children in Haddonfield, Thomas Wernes (survived by his wife, Patty of Naples, Fla.), and Karen Parizeau (predeceased, of Hebron, Conn.). Joan also has a granddaughter, Lauren Young (Josh) of Mansfield, Conn., as well as grandson, Phillip Parizeau, Jr. of Coventry, Conn., along with 3 great-grandchildren.

Joan was also predeceased by her second husband, Roland Johnson.

She was born and raised in the Nutley, N.J. area, where her childhood memories include summers at Green Pond. She held several secretarial and supportive teaching positions, but her main focus was her family.

Carson and Joan enjoyed the ocean breezes and coastal living in Ocean City and Naples, splitting time as snowbirds, soaking up the good life.

Joan is remembered for her beautiful blue eyes, warm smile, loving heart, love of adventure and ease of friendship. She was a member of the Haddonfield United Methodist Church, the Questers group and enjoyed playing golf and bridge. Her love of adventure sent her on many travel excursions. A celebration of her life will be planned.

Memorial donations can be made to: United Methodist Communities Foundation, either online, or by check mailed to: United Methodist Communities, 3311 State Route 33, Neptune, N.J. 07753, noting “The Shores in remembrance of Joan McCullough” on the memo line.
