Bonnie Barrentine (nee Cahill), of Mt. Laurel and formerly of Moorestown, passed away peacefully on March 9 at the age of 90.
She was the beloved wife of the late Loyd Barrentine. Bonnie was the devoted mother of Judy Jordan; Kathy McKinley and husband Gary and James Barrentine and wife Lori Torrini. Bonnie is survived by her sister Mary Shaffer of Dubuque, Iowa and many nieces and nephews. Bonnie was the loving grandmother of eight grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Bonnie was born in February 24, 1930 to Martin and Louise Cahill in Dubuque, Iowa. She grew up with her brother Michael and two sisters Nancy and Mary. Bonnie attended Nativity Catholic School where she learned her love of reading. As an adult, she loved murder mysteries. She graduated from Dubuque Senior High School and went on to attend Michael Reese Nursing School in Chicago.
After graduation Bonnie and her best friend Betty became Army nurses. While Second Lieutenants in officer’s training school, she met the love of her life Loyd, and they were married at Walter Reed Medical Center on July 1, 1952. About a year later Bonnie received her honorable discharge from the army as she and Loyd began their family. She traveled the world through Loyd’s various military assignments. Bonnie always continue her nursing career. When Loyd retired from the military the family moved to Moorestown where Bonnie became an oncology nurse.
Loyd and Bonnie continued to vacation and travel the world in their retirement. She loved going to different countries and seeing new sights. Her favorite vacation place was Hawaii.
When Bonnie first came to Moorestown, she joined the New Comers Club and made many life long friends. This group evolved into The Settlers group and Bonnie learned to play the game of Bridge. Bonnie has played card games from a very young age so excelled in bridge.
Bonnie enjoyed cooking, collecting and trying new recipes. She liked to be creative and had fun making soup. Bonnie often invited friends over to play bridge and have a bowl of soup.
Bonnie was dearly loved by her family and will be missed greatly.
A mass of Christian burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 17 at Our Lady of Good Counsel located at 42 W. Main St. in Moorestown. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va. at a later date.
