Winter events in Berlin this holiday season

Holiday tour, Santa parade scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 7

Berlin Borough residents have plenty of events to look forward to with the holiday season in full swing across South Jersey. Be sure to bundle up and be prepared for various events across the borough.

To welcome the holiday season, Saturday, Dec. 7 will be an important day in Berlin Borough, with multiple events taking place at the Marie Fleche Memorial Library, the municipal building and other historically significant borough sites.

The Downtown Berlin Revitalization Corp. (DBRC) will present its 2019 Long-A-Coming Historical Holiday Tour, with its first trolley at 2 p.m. Tour materials can be picked up from the Fleche library.

The holiday tour will offer South Jersey residents a look at downtown Berlin’s historic district sites, including the state’s oldest railroad station, the borough’s old post office and  the James T. Dill House.

Tours are $15 per person, with trolley departures from the library ever 45 minutes. Riders who purchase a $10 ticket can guide themselves on a tour of at least 10 locations.

The Historic Holiday Tour is meant to promote the continued revitalization of downtown Berlin.

“There is a budding arts district growing in downtown Berlin,” said Cindy Williams, program director for the DBRC. “The tour seeks to give our visitors a historic view of our town.”

Tickets for the holiday tour can be purchased at https://www.downtownberlin.com/historicholidaytour.

Throughout the day on Dec. 7, the Greater Berlin Business and Professional Association (GBBPA) will host a Kindlemart Tent at the Fleche library, with the Solid Rock Baptist Church orchestra performing from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. A variety of crafters will sell items at the tent from 5 to 8 p.m. Two food vendors will be there from 2 to 8 p.m., covering the duration of festivities at the municipal building.

As no holiday season is complete without a parade and visit from Santa, the Berlin Rotary Annual Tree Lighting and visit from Santa will start at 6 p.m. on the 7th. The parade will start at the Berlin Fire Company building and end at the municipal building, where Santa will then take pictures with kids and residents.

The Fleche library will host an open house at 49 S.White Horse Pike for residents to see what the library has to offer. The event is free. Students at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School will perform outside the library at 7 p.m.
