Township committee approves grants, Project SAVE participation

Township approves three $25,000 grants from Camden County for different facilities

At its meeting Monday, Nov. 11, the Voorhees Township Committee approved a Shared Services Agreement between Camden County and Voorhees Township for the continuation of Project SAVE (Substance Abuse Visionary Effort).

The Freeholder Board had previously announced late last month that the program would be extending the program for three years after a successful pilot program. Project SAVE pairs licensed social service professionals with low-level offenders in municipal court systems across 34 of the 37 municipalities in the county in an effort to get residents’ treatment resources regardless of the ability to pay.

According to statistics by Camden County, the program referred 13 residents of Voorhees Township to social services professionals in its first year.

Also at the meeting, township committee approved the insertion of three items of revenue into the 2019 budget, with all three being $25,000 Camden County Recreation Facility Enhancement Grants.

One will be dedicated towards works on the bike path along Centennial Boulevard and Old Egg Harbor, with the second grant providing funds towards the replacement of the playground at the Giangiulio Complex this spring. The final grant will provide for additional walking paths at the Maiaroto Field soccer complex.
