Knowles Teacher Initiative hosting presentation about AFS study abroad program

Please celebrate International Education Week by joining us on Wednesday, Nov. 20, for an evening of conversation with three extraordinary teenagers who traveled half a world away to live in America as exchange students this year. Chalida (from Thailand), Rima (from India) and Sally (from Lebanon) are currently staying as guests of the State Department through a program called AFS (American Field Services) and are living with host families in Haddonfield, Moorestown and Mt. Laurel. Chalida, Rima and Sally will talk about their home countries’ cultures and how they compare with their perceptions and experiences here in New Jersey. They will also answer questions about AFS’s study abroad program and will share delicious food from their home countries.

“These students really shine,” says Melanie Pierce, the local Volunteer Support Coordinator for AFS-USA and host to one of the students. “They are poised and mature beyond their years, and they offer so much we can learn about the world and ourselves.”

The event is sponsored by MooreUnity will be held at the Knowles Teacher Initiative, 1000 N. Church St. in Moorestown from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Whether you’re interested in studying abroad, want to learn first hand about some other cultures or even would just to try some new and different foods, there will be something for everyone.
