LRHSD starting annual Goodwill collection

Press release from Lenape Regional High School District.

At last count, the Lenape Regional High School District has contributed more than 418,000 pounds of clothing for Goodwill. The four district high schools – Lenape, Shawnee, Cherokee and Seneca – have engaged in a friendly competition since 2011 to collect the most pounds of donations per student for the nonprofit.

To recognize the students’ commitment to this cause, Goodwill President and CEO Mark B. Boyd will visit Lenape High School for the official 2019 donation drive kick-off. He’ll be joined by LRHSD administrators and Lenape students in front of Lenape High School’s donation bin, which students have already started filling.

Last year, Seneca collected the most pounds.

As a nonprofit, community-based organization, Goodwill collects and sells gently-used donated items to fund mission programs such as The Helms Academy. Here, adults 18 and over who have left secondary schooling can earn their high school diploma 100% tuition free while simultaneously earning college credit. Currently, Goodwill operates Helms Academy locations in Maple Shade, Stratford, Toms River and Philadelphia.

The collection ends on Nov. 15. Bins are placed at each high school and the following gently-used items can be donated: clothing, accessories, shoes, toys and small household items.
