Fall events in Gloucester Township

From events for the common good to annual festivals, residents have plenty to do this fall around Gloucester Township

As temperatures continue to drop from the sweltering heat of the summer that Gloucester Township residents experienced only a few weeks ago, the season is quickly changing to sweater weather. While some may be sad to see shore trips and pool days end for 2019, residents have plenty to look forward to around town as fall approaches.

Gloucester Township will be hosting its third annual Drive-In Movie Night at Camden County College on Saturday, Sept. 28 starting at 5:30 p.m. with food trucks and games with the movie beginning at dusk. The chosen movie for the event is “Avengers: Endgame.”

The Blackwood Pumpkin Festival, a staple of Gloucester Township, continues this year on Sunday, Oct. 6 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Included in the festivities are pumpkin painting, hayrides, scarecrow building and more.

The Mainstage Center for the Arts will be out in full force entertaining residents with fun activities throughout the day, including a costume parade contest, pumpkin carving contest, cake decorating, puppy parade and more.

“As Mainstage celebrates its 31st anniversary this year, we’re thrilled that the South Jersey community has been able to enjoy the Blackwood Pumpkin Festival for 27 of those years,” said Anne Marie Weaver, director of special projects for Mainstage Center for the Arts. “It’s such a fun way for friends and families to spend a day celebrating the joys of the fall season. We appreciate all those who visit the event, which raises funds for Mainstage’s year-round performing arts programs for kids and their families.”

Also included throughout the day at the Blackwood Pumpkin Festival are moon bounces, live entertainment, vendors and shopping, food trucks and more.

Speaking of food trucks, Gloucester Township will be hosting its second annual Food and Craft Beer Festival on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 2 to 7 p.m. at 15 S. Black Horse Pike in Blackwood.

The event includes more than 20 food trucks serving food and fun, along with live entertainment and music in the streets. Admission to the festival is free and the township encourages residents to come hungry.

Those with questions can contact the mayors office at (856) 374-3514.

Lastly, Gloucester Township will be hosting two events to help residents during October, with a community shred day and a rabies clinic on back-to-back weekends.

The community shred day is Saturday, Oct. 12 from 8 a.m. to noon at the public works building located at 1729 Erial Road.

Residents are encouraged to bring papers to be shredded by trained operators. All documents that are shredded are recycled, meaning only paper can be accepted; no plastic bags, binders, bound books or other similar items. However, paper clips and staples can be accepted.

The Gloucester Township Rabies Clinic is on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 9 to 11 a.m., with 9 to 10:30 being designated for dogs and 10:30 to 11 a.m. being designated for cats.

The clinic will be hosted at the Gloucester Township Senior Building adjacent to the Municipal Building at 1261 Chews Landing Road. Rabies shots during this clinic are free. Call (856) 228-4000 between Oct. 15 to 17 to set appointments.
