Free flu shot program available to Gloucester County residents

The Gloucester County Department of Health is preparing to provide county residents with no-cost flu shots beginning Wednesday, Oct. 2 across the county.

The Gloucester County Department of Health is preparing to provide county residents with no-cost flu shots beginning Wednesday, Oct. 2.  Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger and Freeholder Jim Jefferson, Liaison to the Department of Health, advise residents to make sure to check their mailboxes for the full schedule of flu shots and their locations in the county’s newsletter.

Director Damminger said, “the best way to keep yourself and those around you flu-free this year is to get the flu shot as soon as you can. It’s never too early to start protecting yourself, especially with the past few flu seasons being as rough as they have been.”

Freeholder Jim Jefferson, Liaison to the Department of Health said, “there is no cost for our residents and all you need to do is show up with valid ID. There is a flu shot clinic scheduled in every town so that residents can conveniently and easily access this service.”

“Every resident who gets immunized against the flu will ultimately cut down on the amount of visits to our hospital emergency rooms, employers, schools and other public health agencies during flu season,” said Jefferson.

Clinics are scheduled for weekends and during evening hours, with special clinics just for daycare and pre-school aged children and their families. The county even provides one drive-thru clinic for seniors and those who have a hard time standing in line.

This year’s quadrivalent seasonal flu vaccine contains the following four viruses:  A/Michigan/45/2015 (H1N1)-pdm09-like virus; A/Singapore/INFIMH-16-0019/2016 (H3N2)-like virus; B/Colorado/06/2017-like virus (B/Victoria lineage); B/Phuket/3073/2013-like virus.
