Mayor’s Message: Rick Zammer Awards, ‘Super Saturday’ and St. John’s Church Community Day

The weekly message from Mayor Joann Gattinelli

Rick Zammer Awards

On May 9, I was pleased to celebrate Ron and Eileen Lucarini for being chosen as the 2019 Rick Zammer awardees. Ron and Eileen have done so much for the Washington Township community for many years. I am extremely happy that they were recognized for their generosity and hard work. Ron and Eileen have spent a combined 70 years of working in the education field within the township and are well known for their work outside their jobs as educators. Ron and Eileen created ‘Fun and Freedom Day,’ ‘Gobble Up Hunger Food Drive,’ ‘Power of Giving,’ ‘The Blanket Project,’ ‘Helping Hands Super Bowl Hoagie Sale’ and the COW (Changing Our World) Project. These projects were created for our youth to show caring, acceptance, and support for all. I would like to once again congratulate Ron and Eileen and thank them for their service to the Washington Township community.

Super Saturday

On May 11, I was excited to kick off our annual Washington Township Super Saturday celebration at Washington Lake Park. As usual, there were bouncy rides for kids, vendor tables for shopping, food, music, Washington Township police demonstrationss with K-9 officers, the Orchard Valley Middle School band, chainsaw wood sculpture demos, and many more fun activities for all to enjoy. Also present at Super Saturday were Council President Joe Perry and Council Vice President Sean Longfellow. I would like to thank all of the Washington Township Police, Fire, and EMS who were also present at Super Saturday. I would also like to thank our event coordinator, Lisa Collins, park supervisor, Nick Fiorentino, along with the rest of the parks department and public works department for their assistance in making this event a success for our residents.

St. John’s Church Community Day

On May 19, St. John’s Church hosted a community day. The Washington Township Police, Fire, EMS and other first responders were there to volunteer their time. This community event was an opportunity for residents to interact with and meet new people. There were many vendors present that were offering food, music, and activities for the children and much more. I would like to thank St. John’s Church and the individuals who organized this community day for all to enjoy.
