The Gloucester County Board of Chosen Freeholders announced that on Saturday, June 1 from 6 to 7 p.m. Bwana Jim’s Live Animal Show will be held at James G. Atkinson Park in Sewell, and on Sunday, June 2 the 22 Annual Gloucester County Water Fest will be held at Scotland Run Park in Clayton from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger said, “Jumbo June weekend is the official Parks and Recreation’s summer program kick-off and it is the perfect opportunity for families and friends to enjoy our parks.”
Freeholder Jim Lavender said, “The County Parks System is beautiful and our Parks Department staff works hard to offer programming and events for all ages. We have free movies and concerts, family fun shows, and programs featuring history at the Whitall House.” Lavender is the Freeholder Liaison to the Department of Parks and Recreation.
“These events are all free to attend, so look for your copy of your 2019 Summer Movies, Concerts and Events guide in your mail and join us for some free fun all summer long,” Lavender said.
The Bwana Jim’s Live Animal Show on Saturday, June 1 from 6 to 7 p.m. at James G. Atkinson Park, 138 Bethel Mill Road, Sewell is free. Bwana Jim specializes in reptiles such as snakes, alligators, and turtles, as well as other animals like armadillos, wallabies and exotic birds.
This year’s Water Fest will take place on Sunday, June 2 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Scotland Run Park 980 East Academy Street, Clayton. It is the largest environmental fair in the county.
The event is free to attend and will be held rain or shine. This year’s festivities include three amazing live animal shows beginning at noon, 1:30 and 3 p.m. Face painting from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and canoeing and kayaking from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. There will vendors with craft tables, food and other goods to purchase. Nature trails are open throughout the day.
