Russell L. Gunning of Moorestown passed away on May 11 at the age of 93. Russ was a lifelong resident of Moorestown and served in the United States Army during World War II. He and was retired from the Township of Moorestown after many years with the Deptartment of Public Works. Russ was a life member of the Moorestown Emergency Squad and life member of the Relief Engine Company, which he held the distinction of being the oldest living member of until his passing.He was an exempted member of the New Jersey State Fireman Relief Association.
He will be remembered as a kind, generous man to all that knew him and loved him. He was the husband of the late Helen “Betty” Gunning and devoted father of Marlene (Thomas) Yohnnson, Richard (Crystal) Gunning. Russ was the loving grandfather of Emily and Eric Gunning; Thomas Yohnnson Jr., Brian Yohnnson and Melissa Tait. He was the great-grandfather of Cheyenne, Brooke and Taylor Yohnnson and Hunter Tait.
A viewing will be held Wed, May 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lewis Funeral Home on E. Main Street in Mooretown. A funeral service will take place on Thursday, May 16 at 10 a.m. at the Immanuel Baptist Church located at: 6 S. Poplar Ave. in Maple Shade with a viewing from 9 to 10 a.m. at the church. Interment will be at Morgan Cemetery in Cinnaminson.
