The programs, set for May 3, 10, 17, 24, and 31, will educate and inform the audience on a current military or veterans-related topic.

The programs are funded through the Norman and May Brill Memorial Legacy, which was founded last year. Cherry Hill resident May Brill, who will turn 95 on May 13, and her late husband Norman both served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. The Brill’s legacy was founded last year. May Brill hopes the legacy will establish May as “Remember the Veterans Month” in South Jersey.

May remains active as the leader of program development for residents of the Vineland Veterans Memorial Home, honorary commander of the Jewish War Veterans Post 126 of Southern New Jersey, chair of Women in the Military for all of New Jersey, and president of the Jewish Community Center’s senior group. She frequently speaks to classrooms of students about American history and the history of veterans, especially female veterans.

For more than 120 years, the JWV has led grassroots efforts to get legislation for the Jewish community passed in New Jersey and within Congress. According to May Brill, the JWV has been the driving force behind anti-discrimination in the U.S. military and veterans community.

All five programs are free and open to the public. Those wishing to have a deceased family veteran’s name announced when a memorial candle is lit each Friday may call Marcy Lahav at the JCC at (856) 424-4444, ext. 1247, to give her the veteran’s name. The JCC will also gratefully accept optional donations in deceased veterans’ names to support the JCC’s future May programs honoring veterans.
