Police say ETPD Officer Joseph Czyzewski prevented a home break-in as a family slept inside.
The following information is on file with the Evesham Township Police Department:
The Evesham Township Police Department has named Officer Joseph Czyzewski as the department’s “Officer of the Month” for the month of February 2019.
According to police, Czyzewski recently prevented a home break-in as a family slept inside.
On Feb. 3 at 3:11 a.m., Czyzewski was on proactive patrol in the Ravenscliff Development when he observed a vehicle in a driveway on Justice Drive with a dome light illuminated.
Upon investigating further, Czyzewski observed a male allegedly standing at the front door of the house, who then fled on foot after observing a police presence.
It was later determined that the male was part of a crew of four individuals who were allegedly committing a spree of motor vehicle burglaries in the area.
It was also determined that the male Czyzewski encountered was allegedly in the process of making entry to the residence with a key he had stolen from the vehicle in the driveway.
The residence was occupied by a family, including children.
According to police, there is no doubt that Czyzewski’s “proactive encounter” with this male kept him from entering the occupied residence and kept the residents safe from harm.
Police say the encounter also led to responding units initiating a motor vehicle pursuit with another male and recovering an allegedly stolen motor vehicle that contained evidence, which later led to the identity and arrest of the other individuals.
During this investigation, Czyzewski and his K-9 partner, Moose, conducted various tracks of the individuals, which spanned miles in thick snow covered woods.
Police officials say the department is recognizing Czyzewski his outstanding “police work and making the community a safer place.”
Czyzewski has been a member of the Evesham Police Department for four years.
