Burlington County hosting sensory-friendly Easter egg hunt

Children with special needs are invited to this unique and inclusive holiday event.

Children with special needs in Burlington County are invited to participate in the second annual Sensory-Friendly Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 13.

The egg hunt will be held in partnership with the Burlington County Special Services School located at 20 Pioneer Blvd., Westampton, NJ 08060.

“We’re excited to bring this event back for the second year,” said Chief Michael Ditzel. “We received incredible feedback from past participants who told us that this is one of the only events in the area specifically designed for special need children.”

The egg hunt will be held in three sessions. Children will participate in small groups and will be aided by sound, flashing light and magnetic devices. Participants will have the opportunity to enhance socialization with their peers, and increase independence and decision-making skills.

• Session 1: Autism Spectrum Disorder 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

• Session 2: Multiple Disabilities 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

• Session 3: Visually Impaired Deaf and Hard of Hearing 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

The event will feature “Touch A Truck” with emergency vehicles on-site, a special appearance by the Easter Bunny, therapy chickens and more.

“We’re proud to host events like these that strengthen our relationship with the community,” concluded Chief Ditzel.

Those interested in attending should pre-register before Thursday, April 4 by emailing Autumn Maybury at [email protected].

The egg hunt is open to children of all ages with special needs. Food and light refreshments will be provided. The event is rain or shine.
