The Gloucester County Animal Shelter will be waiving adoption fees on Feb. 26 for all cats and dogs in honor of World Spay and Neuter Day, according to Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger and Freeholder Deputy Director Frank J. DiMarco.

“In honor of World Spay and Neuter Day on Feb. 26, the Gloucester County Animal Shelter will be offering their adoptable animals to the public for no cost,” Damminger said. “This includes the cost of spaying and neutering services. When we increase the number of animals who are spayed and neutered we help reduce the number of unwanted animals.”

Added DiMarco: “It is important to raise awareness for spaying and neutering, and get our animals into good homes. World Spay and Neuter day is an opportunity to both highlight the spay and neuter programs and to help increase the adoption of our animals.”

The regular fee for dogs is $125 and $95 for cats. There is a discounted $35 fee for senior citizens and military veterans. The fees for dogs include spay and neuter, Antigen Heartworm test, nasal Bordetella, worming, all age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, collar, leash and an identification tag from Gloucester County Animal Shelter. For cats, the fee includes Spay and Neuter, Feline Leukemia/AIDS combination test, all age appropriate vaccinations, worming, microchip, disposable cat carrier and an identification tag and collar from Gloucester County Animal Shelter.

If the animal is not spayed or neutered at the time of adoption, an appointment will be made for surgery and the animal will be delivered to the clinic and the new owner can pick up their pet after surgery has been completed.

Applications must be pre-approved by the end of the day on Friday, Feb. 22 in order to be eligible to receive a free pet on Feb. 26. Visit the county website for a pre-adoption application, or call (856) 881–2828 (ext. 1) for more details.
