Gloucester Township ranks seventh in country for National Night Out

The first Tuesday in August is routinely recognized as a day to connect communities with their local emergency services men and women

The following is a release from the Gloucester Township Police Department:

Once again, the Gloucester Township Police Department has jumped up another rank, to seventh in the country, for National Night Out, Americas Night out to stand up to crime.

NATW introduced National Night Out in August of 1984 through an already established network of law enforcement agencies, neighborhood watch groups, civic groups, state and regional crime prevention associations and volunteers across the nation. The first annual National Night Out involved 2.5 million neighbors across 400 communities in 23 states. However, the event soon grew to a celebration beyond just front porch vigils.

Neighborhoods across the nation began to host block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts and various other community events with safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, visits from emergency personnel, exhibits and more. Today, 38 million neighbors in 16 thousand communities across the nation take part in National Night Out.

Millions of neighbors take part in National Night Out across thousands of communities from all fifty states, U.S. territories and military bases worldwide on the first Tuesday in August.

Be on the lookout for Gloucester Township’s 2019 National Night Out Kick-Off Meeting where residents who are interested in being a part of NNO 2019 meet and discuss ideas.
