Following Sherry Mongiovi-Dvorak’s resignation, an open seat became available on the board of education for Harrison Township.

At its Jan. 24 meeting, the Clearview Regional Board of Education announced a new appointment to fill an empty seat on the board.
Fenu Cherian will fill the open seat for Harrison Township until Dec. 31. The seat was vacated by Sherry Mongiovi-Dvorak earlier this month as she announced her resignation.
Board member Greg Fuller remarked on Cherian’s professional experience in technology, advocacy for furthering the district’s STEM program and for being a student-oriented person.
The seat Cherian is filling will be up for election for an unexpired two-year term in November.
Board members also furthered their discussion — approved later — of parent-paid tuitions, specifically in regard to the middle school as the district nears its Feb. 7 information night for out-of-district families.
“More discussions have taken place with the administrative group, and we’d like to recommend that we go out with a $5,000 parent tuition rate for the middle school,” said Esther Pennell, business administrator.
No student is currently on tuition at the middle school. However, Pennell added they were approached for one to be added for the 2019–2020 school year.
Other members of the board inquired if the tuition will be locked-in, much like what universities commonly do, for parents, or if it will go to the previously agreed rate for the high school at $7,000.
Superintendent John Horchak added the board has an opportunity every month to review its policies, and it could be written in if that’s the consensus of the board members.
While the district is able to collect enrollment funds for the tuition-paid students, Horchak later clarified it will not be able to collect state aid for them because they do not reside in the district.
In other news:
- Inductions for the Tri-M (modern music masters) National Honor Society were held on Jan. 23 with approximately 26 Clearview students;
- Student council announced the Mental Health and Awareness Club is collecting new and used books for area shelters and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia;
- An anti-bullying initiative was put in at the high school by students to stop name-calling for one week;
- The high school’s spring production of “Footloose” will be in March; and
- A Gloucester County Institute of Technology bus will be used in the mornings to help alleviate the current bus situation the district is facing.
The next board of education meeting will be held on Feb. 28 at the Administration Building starting at 7 p.m.
