New Jersey native, Haddonfield resident passed away on Jan. 20
Mary A. Gartland, longtime Haddonfield resident, passed away on Jan. 20 at the age of 97. She was the sister of Noreen Schlitt (Ludwig) of Haddonfield and Bernard J. Gartland (Diane) of La Quinta, Calif. Mary is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, many grandnieces and nephews, and a growing generation of great grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Known to most simply as “Aunt Mary.”
Mary was born in the Elmora section of Elizabeth, N.J., graduated from Holy Trinity HS (Class of 1939) in Westfield and attended Pace Institute. She was employed by the Ethel Corporation as a manager of the statistical typing unit and remained with the company until her retirement in the early 1980s, when she moved to Haddonfield to be with her sister.
After retirement, she dedicated her energy to her grand nieces and nephews and became a major part of their lives. Funeral services and burial were conducted privately by Kain-Murphy Funeral Services of Haddonfield.
