Unforgotten Haven open for all

Those affected by the government shutdown can seek assistance from this Gloucester Township nonprofit for all types of supplies and necessities

The United States Federal Government has been partially shutdown for 26 days, at the time of this article. For many government workers, nearly a month without a paycheck can be a serious problem.

The Unforgotten Haven, located in the Blackwood section of Gloucester Township, is open for all in need of household items during the government shutdown and was recently fully stocked in preperation to help any and all that come through the doors.

The nonprofit is stocked with food, toiletries, diapers and wipes, baby food, pet food, feminine products and more for those that may need assistance during the ongoing government shutdown. Those looking for supplies must come with a photo ID, such as a drivers license.

Traditionally, The Unforgotten Haven packs three-day emergency bags for those in need, however they are now making more available due to recent events.

“This is now weekly because of the government shutdown,” said Michelle Gambone, one of the founders of The Unforgotten Haven. “Anyone that needs help can come.”

The Unforgotten Haven posted this on its Facebook page Sunday, Jan. 13:

In light of the government shutdown and the many people who are not being paid at this time, we want to make sure our pantry stays filled so we can help anyone who comes in. If you would like to help we could really use the following:

-All non perishable food (please check expiration dates!) especially canned tuna or chicken, pasta, sauce, macaroni and cheese, Chef Boyardee, canned fruits and veggies, beans, rice, cereal)
– Full size toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, lotion.
– Diapers (all sizes) baby wipes, formula, baby food, baby toiletries.
– Laundry detergent, dryer sheets, toilet paper, paper towels

We will do our best to help as many people as we can for as long as we can.

Those in need of supplies may come to The Unforgotten Haven once a week to receive bags of goods to help. The building is located at 100 South Black Horse Pike in Blackwood.

Hours for picking up items are Monday from 10 a.m. to noon, Wednesday 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.
