Volunteer Center of Burlington County to host annual MLK Day service event Jan. 21

Card making for those in care facilities, food collection drives and more will take place that day.

The Volunteer Center of Burlington County will hold its 13th annual Martin Luther King Day Challenge event on Monday, Jan. 21.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Burlington County Library, located at 5 Pioneer Blvd, in Westampton.

The following service activities will be held at the event:

  • Card Making, where volunteers can create greeting cards to be distributed to care facility residents in Burlington County. Supplies will be provided.
  • A Volunteer Opportunities Fair, where several organizations will be on hand to provide information regarding their respective volunteer opportunities.

The following collection drives will also be at the event:

  • Food Collection for the Oaks Integrated Food Pantry, where volunteers will be accepting food donations such as oatmeal, granola bars, macaroni and cheese, canned meat and fish, canned fruit and vegetables.
  • Animal Supplies Collection for the Burlington County Animal Shelter, where volunteers will be accepted donations such as dog and cat food, blankets, toys (plastic/rubber) and non-clumping cat litter.
  • Supply collection for Operation Yellow Ribbon of South Jersey, where volunteers will be accepting donations such as batteries, lip balm, ground coffee, shampoo and conditioner.

The Volunteer Center also asks supporters and members of the public to “like” the Volunteer Center’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/VolunteerCenterBurlingtonCounty.

Officials hope to reach 2,000 “likes” to help keep Burlington County’s residents better informed as to how they can make a difference in the quality of life in Burlington County.
