Police Officers shopped with two dozen kids to help them buy gifts for their family this holiday season
The following is a press release by the Gloucester Township Police Department:
On Dec. 8th, the Gloucester Township Police Department, with a partnership with the Gloucester Township Target, participated in its Sixth Annual Heroes and Helpers Program (Shop With a Cop).
Gift cards were purchased for each child to spend on Christmas gifts for their families. The children were chosen with the assistance of the Gloucester Township Public School District. A male and female child was selected from each elementary public and private school to participate in the event.
Through the initiative, GTPD was able to help out approximately 24 children and their families.
As the program’s name suggests, the children are the Heroes and the officers are their Helpers. Each child was able to shop with the help of a Gloucester Township Police Officer. They then picked out $100 worth of Christmas presents. Target staff members and volunteers wrapped the presents. The participants also got a special visit from Santa.
On the day of the event, Target, Chick Fil A, and Gloucester Township FOP Lodge 206 provided food for the children. Additional donations were made by Civilian Gloucester Township Staff and Blackwood Kiwanis.
