Letters from the library

Check out the activities offered at Pinelands Branch Library this November.

Thanksgiving is coming, Thanksgiving is coming! I can’t wait to get ready for Turkey Day. Do you have your bird? Are you excited for the beginning of the holiday season? I know I am.

There is so much going on at the Pinelands Library that I hardly know where to begin. Of course, our reading raffles have begun again. We offer both adult and youth opportunities each month to win a prize by reading books. Just fill out an entry for each book read and offer an opinion to be entered into the contest.

We offer a fall leaf wreath make-n-take craft from Nov. 19 through Nov. 21. Stop by the library for a fun autumn craft. Available while supplies last.

We are pleased to invite you to spend time with another original author, Richard Bell, on Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. Bell’s book “The Last Veterans of World War II” juxtaposes photographs of veterans taken during the war years with portraits of them today, as they tell their stories. Bell’s book is a salute to “The Greatest Generation.” Bell will have copies of his book on hand for sale and to sign.

We have a new exciting program for our non-native speaking guests. Twice a month Kathy Orey will be facilitating an opportunity to improve your vocabulary, grammar and speech in a safe and supportive environment at our Talk It Up — ESL Conversation Group. Topics include food, shopping, health, customs, holidays and fun things to do. The group will be meeting every other Wednesday at 5 p.m. beginning Nov. 14.

On Nov. 21 at 11 a.m. join us for a fun, interactive performance by local magician, Jake Strong. Strong, only 17 years old, has been interested in magic all his life and performed at hundreds of children’s shows across the country stressing the concepts of respecting one another with astonishing results. Come and be amazed.

Until next time, keep turning those pages and prepare to start raking those leaves!
