Local community leaders unite after ‘racist literature’ distributed in Old Orchard
A number of Old Orchard residents found some disturbing material on their lawns on morning of Saturday, Oct. 13. Fliers described by the Cherry Hill Police Department as “racist literature” were found at several homes in Old Orchard on that morning. The fliers included racist and anti-Semitic remarks and included the logo and website for the Loyal White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan.
‘Motivated’ Cougars claim third sectional championship in four years
A year after Cherry Hill High School East suffered an upset in the South Jersey Group IV playoffs, the Cougars’ girls tennis team is now back on top in their section. Cherry Hill East swept past Egg Harbor Twp. High School, 5–0, on Tuesday to win the school’s third sectional title in four years. It was a sweet win for players such as Pallavi Goculdas, who was unable to play in last year’s postseason run due to an injury.
Cherry Hill teen doing her part in advocating for Type 1 diabetes research
The JDRF South Jersey Chapter One Walk annually draws hundreds of Type 1 diabetics and their families as they rally to raise money for research into the disease. One of the people who attends this event every year is 15-year-old Cherry Hill resident Morgan Laufgraben. A sophomore at Cherry Hill East, Laufgraben was diagnosed with diabetes at 8 years old and has since made it her mission to raise awareness about the disease.
Township revels in “Volley for Support”
This year’s Cherry Hill Public Schools’ Volley for Support fundraiser benefited the Ehlers Danlos Society, which raises awareness and funds to combat Ehlers-Danlos syndromes. The event hit home for resident Alisha Lerman and her two daughters, Julie and Samantha. Both girls are dealing with the conditions from Ehlers-Danlos and enjoyed themselves to the fullest at Volley for Support.
HIB self-assessments, PARCC scores revealed at latest Cherry Hill Board of Education meeting
Tuesday’s Cherry Hill Board of Education meeting was jam packed with multiple presentations as well as comments from members of the public. At the meeting, Director of Pupil Services LaCoyya Weathington presented the district’s 2017–18 HIB self-assessment scores. After this presentation, the board was presented with the results from the 2017–18 PARCC test.
