Harrison Township to resume annual Curbside Leaf Collection Program

The following press release comes from Harrison Township.

Leaves are prohibited from being put in bags to avoid damage to machines and crews.

Harrison Township will conduct its annual Curbside Leaf Collection Program beginning the week of Oct. 22 through the week of Dec. 31. To keep the collection organized and efficient, the township has been divided into six zones.

Once the leaf crews have gone by your house, in order to keep to the schedule, they cannot accommodate requests for returns until the next scheduled pickup. Additional leaves are to not be put out until then.

If you have a private landscaper or contractor to perform your leaf cleanup, have them take the leaves with them. If they are not equipped to do so, ask them to schedule their cleanup of your property to coincide with collection schedules so leaves are not out for a long period of time.

A leaf vacuum is used to collect the leaves, therefore bags are prohibited due to potential damage to the machinery and crew.

Residents are asked to keep a few things in mind:

  • Place leaves in wind-rows (long, narrow, neat piles), curbside by the starting dates for your zone.
  • Do not place leaves within 10 feet of a storm drain inlet.
  • Do not park vehicles in front of leaf wind-rows.
  • Wind rows should only contain leaves — no grass, twigs, branches, trash, dirt, concrete, metal, bushes or other debris.

Leaves can be placed in brown yard carts for regular weekly pickup through the end of November.

The Recycle Center, located at 151 Colson Lane, will still be accepting leaves and other vegetation at this time.

The schedule is a guideline, and crews may move faster or slower based on conditions and volume. Residential cooperation is essential for the program’s success.
