Cherry Hill West grad to present to New Jersey School Counselor Association

Elizabeth Schopfer will give a presentation entitled “Suicide Risk in Children and Adolescents — A Community Health Perspective.”

Cherry Hill High School West 2009 Valedictorian Elizabeth Anne Schopfer will be presenting at the New Jersey School Counselor Association at Pine Manor in Edison, New Jersey, on Oct. 12 on the topic of “Suicide Risk in Children and Adolescents — A Community Health Perspective.”

Schopfer, a Pitman resident, is a bilingual functional family therapist, in addition to serving as a mobile response outreach and case manager at Robins’ Nest Inc. in Glassboro.

Schopfer volunteers as a crisis text line counselor and a disaster response crisis counselor with the New Jersey Department of Health. She volunteers at Calvary Hill Assembly of God Church in Glassboro as a volunteer behavioral specialist and administrator for the children’s education and special needs ministry.

Schopfer has a bachelor’s degree in psychology with distinction and a certificate in Spanish from the University of Pennsylvania in 2013. In addition to a M.S.Ed. in Counseling and Mental Health Services in 2014 and a master’s degree in counseling and mental health services in 2015 also from the University of Pennsylvania, Schopfer continues to mentor international students in the Graduate Education Program at Penn and was presented with the Best Mentor Award in spring of 2017.

Schopfer has published research for the National Institute of Health on “Sleep Duration versus Sleep Insufficiency as Predictors of Cardiometabolic Health Outcomes” and the United States Department of Health and Human Services “The Relationship between Sleep Duration and Body Mass Index Depends on Age.”

Schopfer has participated and presented research at the International Meeting for Autism Research 2010 Conference in Philadelphia, the 8th and 9th annual Center for Sleep and Circadian Neurobiology Research Retreat in Philadelphia, Sleep 2011 and 2012 International Conference, Big Break 2011 and 2012 Campus Crusade for Christ Missionary and Seattle’s “Summer in the City” Project Missionary working with the Washington State Department of Corrections, to counsel criminal offenders both on parole and in prison and homeless and at-risk youth. She is also certified in school counseling in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
