Letters from the Library: Keep enjoying summer

The Pinelands Branch Library has plenty of fun in store thisĀ August

Where has the time gone? Holiday fireworks are finished, and the summer heat is exploding. Soon it will be time to begin winding down those vacations and winding up the back to school shopping.

Our Summer Family Movie Matinee series continues Friday, July 27, at 10:30 a.m. with a presentation of ā€œMoana,ā€ a new Disney classic about an adventurous teenager who sets sail on a daring mission to save her people. The following Friday, Aug. 3, at 10:30 a.m., we will be showing ā€œThe Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkleā€ in which the animated characters interact with live actors playing Fearless Leader and Boris andĀ Natasha.

August is a busy month at the library beginning with Let Your Imagination Fly: Paper Airplanes on Aug. 1 at 3 p.m. Mr. Dennis will teach our 6- to 12-year-old guests to create a variety of paper airplanes. After a little practice, there will also be a contest to see which plane flies the farthest!

We are very excited to welcome Ginger Coyle, local recording artist, on Aug. 2 at 11 a.m. as she performs ā€œReally Rosie,ā€ a story written by Maurice Sendak with songs by Carol King. The story follows a typical summer day in the life of several neighborhood friends, including Pierre, Alligator, Johnny and Chef Jeff. Rosie, the self-proclaimed sassiest kid on her block of Brooklynā€™s Avenue P, entertains everyone by directing and starring in a movie based on the exciting, dramatic, funny (and slightly exaggerated) story of herĀ life.

Our adult friends can stop in for a fun night of crafting at the library on Aug. 6 at 6:30 p.m. We will be creating a unique piece of art using melted crayons. There is no formal instruction for this class, and no experience is needed. We will provide all supplies.

Also for the adults is Road Tripping Without Fallingā€Šā€”ā€ŠSurvive and Thrive with your Family on the Road on Thursday, Aug. 9 at 7 p.m. The Ovidia Familyā€™s latest book can help you stay on budget, keep everyone entertained during the long ride and create must see sites along theĀ way.

As our Summer Reading Program comes to a close, we bring you Polka Dot Concert: Libraries Rock, a musical show for the whole family, on Friday, Aug. 10 at 10:30 a.m. Thereā€™s music, interactive comedy skits, special effects! Original Ron Albaneseā€Šā€”ā€ŠPOLKA DOT! songs are performed, as well as kooky covers of surf and classic rock, and more. Everyone who sees it says,Ā ā€œWow!ā€

Until next time, keep turning those pages and enjoy the summerĀ sun!
