Letter to the Editor: Who’s paying for supervisor’s and principal’s union dues?

Domenick Ruggiero writes about what he noticed from a recent BOE pod-cast

After watching the Washington Township BOE pod-cast I was absolutely irritated. It seems that they use $62,000 per year to pay union dues for; I believe it stated, supervisors and principals. I do not believe that we the taxpayers should be footing the bill for the dues to the union they chose to belong to.

Since when does the board have a right to use taxpayer money funded to the schools for education to pay union dues for the very organizations that threatens shutting us down in labor disputes?

Also annoying is the fact these funds were used to lobby and fund political candidates and the very ones who control school funding. Since when, I ask, is it legitimate to use educational funding for political support which is exactly what union dues fund. Also this BOE wants to open up the superintendent’s contract early and give him a raise.

Are you kidding me? All this when we face a possible 1/2 million to 8 million funding shortfall over the next few years? What is this BOE thinking of? Funding for educations should be used for that negotiating pay increases benefits that’s not a problem but paying union dues for them, which is tantamount to supporting a political PAC no way, should this happen.

I ask the state BOE why is this permitted what happened to education money going to education. Union dues no matter how you cut it are not for the benefit of education they are self-serving to the union and their PAC. I urge this BPOE to stop this immediately. Hey if the dues are too much for you then drop out you will still be represented but we the taxpayers are not going to fund your PAC anymore.
