LRHSD student Liz Speiser wins skate deck design contest
A challenge, to design a skate deck that would appeal to a target audience, allowed for replication in various deck sizes and have space for the addition of logos, was presented to the art students through a partnership between the Lenape Regional High School District and the Curbside Skate Shop in Medford. Curbside announced Shawnee student Liz Speiser’s “Life’s Rose” as the winning design earlier this month during the Medford Art Walk.
Curbside has manufactured Speiser’s design on 50 skate decks, with each one numbered and signed by Speiser to emphasize the limited quantity produced. They are currently for sale in the shop and Speiser received a courtesy skateboard from the shop bearing her design.
Speiser was among more than 60 students to feature their skate deck designs at Curbside during the Art Walk. Curbside’s manager Pat Brennan and owner Shawn Fleming ultimately chose Speiser’s design, a rose intertwined in a robotic-looking hand, to reproduce for sale in the shop.
Camp No Worries creates a worry-free camping environment
Camp No Worries is a place for children to do just that — have no worries.
The camp was founded in 1995 by Kasey Massa, who had the vision of creating a place for children with cancer to enjoy traditional camp activities while undergoing treatment. Siblings of those diagnosed with cancer are welcome to attend as well.
This year’s camp was held from June 24 to June 30 at Camp Inawendiwin in Tabernacle. The campers range in age from 6 to 16, and the activities include swimming, boating, crafts, nature walks, archery, scavenger hunts, ziplining and more. This year’s theme is “around the world,” where campers get to learn about each destination throughout the week.

The Pine Barrens Festival returns for its 30th year
The 30th annual Pine Barrens Festival will be taking place July 23–28 at the Church of the Holy Eucharist in Tabernacle for six nights of entertainment and appreciation of the community.
The festival will be open from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. from Monday through Thursday, and 6 p.m. to midnight on Friday and Saturday.
After 30 years of perfecting the festival, there will be plenty of activities for people of all ages to enjoy. There will be games, rides, live music, dancing, food, a beer garden and more.
Each night of the festival will feature one town to recognize for its support and involvement in the community. There will also be awards given to selected town residents, chosen by each township, who have made a positive impact on the community.
Opening night’s “Town Night” will be for Medford; Tuesday will be for Chatsworth Woodland; Wednesday will be for Medford Lakes; Thursday will be for Vincentown/Southampton; Friday will be for Indian Mills/Shamong; and Saturday will recognize Tabernacle.
