New hours at Gloucester County Animal Shelter designed for more convenient adoption times

Press release issued by Gloucester County

As of July, 2, the Gloucester County Animal Shelter adoption hours are noon to 7 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday and noon to 4 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

Freeholder Dan Christy said this change comes as a result of feedback from many potential adopters who requested a day on the weekend for adoptions.

“We get a lot of feedback from the community about the animal shelter, and we have heard over and over again how much easier it would be for families to adopt a pet if there were weekend hours. We listened to that feedback and found a way to change our schedule to be more convenient for adopters.” Christy is the Freeholder Liaison to the Gloucester County Animal Shelter.

Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger said that other improvements at the Gloucester County Animal Shelter are also underway, including a new, 2,400-square-foot space. The expansion will include a triage room where all animals will be evaluated when they first arrive at the facility, an office for the animal control staff and an adoption space where potential cat owners will be able to meet and view animals up for adoption.

Damminger said, “This expansion will assist in finding new forever homes for surrendered animals.”

The shelter will maintain hours Monday through Saturday for lost and found, donation drop-off and other business. Instead of Monday, applying, viewing and adopting will be available Saturday from noon to 4 p.m.

For questions about adopting a pet from the Gloucester County Animal Shelter, call (856) 881–2828, or visit http://www.co.gloucester.nj.us/depts/a/shelter/adoption.asp to fill out an application for adoption. The GCAS is located at 1200 N. Delsea Drive, Clayton, NJ.
