Gloucester County DREAM Park hosting Wild Horse and Burro adoption

Release issued by Gloucester County

The Gloucester County DREAM Park would like to encourage residents to consider attending the wild horse and burro adoption event taking place April 13 and 14. Whether you are a horse owner, previous owner, or wish to become an owner, the DREAM Park is excited to help find promising homes for these animals.

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), who runs the wild horse and burro adoption, works to place excess animals into private care through its adoption and sales programs as well as partnerships with organizations across the nation.

Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger said, “Horses are magnificent creatures that take a lot of time and effort to care for. While adopting a wild horse or burro may appear challenging due to their wild nature, with the right amount of love and care owners will be able to earn the trust of these animals and, in a way, own a part of our nation’s history.”

The BLM has placed more than 240,000 wild horses and burros into private care since 1971. Many of those animals have become excellent pleasure, show or work horses

Friday, April 13 will be open for internet pick up from 9 a.m. to noon and will be open for horse and burro selection from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Saturday, April 14 will be open for selection from 8 a.m. to noon and again from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Trainer demonstrations will also be available from 9:30 a.m. to noon and again from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

For any questions or information on how to access the “Wild Horse and Burro Online Corral” as well as where to print the required forms for adoption, please visit https://www.blm.gov/programs/wild-horse-and-burroa
