Recent severe weather has increased need for donations
The American Red Cross normally sees blood donations increase in the spring after a dip between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day.
However, this year, the Red Cross’ blood supply is running low due to several recent nor’easters, said Alana Mauger, a regional spokesperson for the nonprofit organization.
“We really need people to come out and help right now,” Mauger said.
Cinnaminson residents will have the opportunity to donate when the Red Cross hosts a blood drive from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 29, at the Cinnaminson Community Center, located at 1621 Riverton Road.
Mauger said walk-ins are welcome, but the organization prefers donors to set up an appointment ahead of the drive.
“We encourage people to make an appointment because it cuts down their waiting time,” she added.

Severe weather has forced the Red Cross to cancel more than 270 blood drives across the country in the first two weeks of March, according to a news release. That means more than 9,500 blood and palate donations have gone uncollected.
The Red Cross is looking for donors with all blood types. Those eligible to donate must be at least 16 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. Donors under the age of 17 must have a parent’s permission, and high school students also have to meet addition height and weight requirements.
