Mark Gravinese, Twp. Administrator, is looking forward to spring

Gravinese highlights multiple events on the horizon

After enduring yet another major weather event that included more snow last week, I bet we are all ready to welcome spring. Looking forward to the change of the season means warmer weather; the crack of the bats for T-Ball and baseball; lacrosse; soccer; and prep for the beach goers to head to the shore. Yes, it is a time of the year we all look forward to. With that thought in mind, I would like to share some of the offerings that our Recreation Commission works on with all of their dedicated volunteers this time of the year. The offerings include many community activities for all ages.

Coming up soon is their Annual Easter Egg Hunt that is scheduled for Saturday, March 24 at the William Wilt Sports complex. This event will include a visit from the Easter Bunny who will pose for pictures with the kids and yes, the adults if they choose to. Recreation has actively been taking registrations for all of their upcoming spring programs like aquatic, tumblin’ tots, children’s tennis, ladies tennis clinic, t-ball and soccer (PreK-K) programs.

In May, there are three big events that are family oriented and worth noting. Our Movie in the Park Series kicks off on Friday, May 18 at Ella Harris Park. The Annual Community Yard Sale is scheduled for Saturday, May 19 at Ella Harris — a great time to unload those items that are cluttering your home. For more information about these programs and others, please contact Sharon Chew in our Recreation Office at (856) 223–8777.

I have saved the best for last, our Annual Harrison Township Day event is scheduled for Saturday, May 5 at Ella Harris Park. The Recreation Commission has come up with a new theme this year featuring “super heroes.” This event will also feature amusements, lots of food vendors, games and much more. We will be hosting a firework extravaganza at dusk which has been the highlight of our Harrison Township Day festivities for years. So mark your calendars now!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our Harrison Township Recreation Commission members for their hard work and dedication in offering so many recreational venues for our residents. If you have time and would like to volunteer on the Recreation Commission, I suggest that you contact Sharon Chew at her office. They are always looking for new volunteers to assist their team.
