Evesham Police arrest two students in separate incidents for alleged school shooting threats

Police say the incidents involved a 15-year-old student and a 12-year-old student.

The following information is on file with the Evesham Township Police Department:

On March 7, the Evesham Township Police Department arrested a 15-year-old high school student on charges that he allegedly made a threat to be involved in a shooting at Cherokee High School.

Police say they were notified that the 15-year-old student allegedly sent a snapchat message to a fellow, second student about his desire to “shoot up the school”.

Police say the second student immediately reported the alleged incident to their parents and school officials. School Resource Officers, along with Evesham Detectives and school personnel, worked quickly to identify the student who allegedly made the threat, who police say was immediately taken into custody and admitted to the threat.

Police say the student who allegedly made the threat was charged with terroristic threats and false public alarms.

On Friday March 9, police say a 12-year-old middle school student was arrested on charges that he allegedly made a threat to be involved in a school shooting in Evesham Township.

Police say they were notified that the 12-year-old student allegedly sent a snapchat message to a second, fellow student about his desire to “plan a school shooting”.

The second student notified their parents of this incident who reported it to the police department.

School Resource Officers, along with Evesham Detectives and school officials again worked quickly to identify the student who allegedly made the threat and immediately located him at his residence.

The student who allegedly made the threat was taken into custody and charged with terroristic threats and false public alarms.

“We always take any kinds of threats against our schools very seriously,” Evesham Chief of police Christopher Chew said. “I am proud of the amount of passion and energy that our officers and detectives displayed in working together with the school staff to uncover the source of the threats and make sure any potential danger to our students and school staff was immediately neutralized.”
