Moorestown schools closed for students on March 16

Students will be off while staff spend the in-service day addressing safety and security.

The Moorestown Township School District will be closed for students only on March 16, according to a letter released by Superintendent Scott McCartney on March 5.

The day will be spent in-service for staff in order to address the topics of safety and security.

“Our district was poised to spend an entire in-service day this spring around the topic of safety and security to revisit our existing processes, expand our learning and discuss how we could improve our current practices,” McCartney writes in the letter. “Given the current local and national outrage and concern surrounding the tragic and horrific attacks on schools, we do not want to wait until spring to ensure our school family is as focused and prepared as we can be to ensure the safety of your children and our employees.”

The day was originally a district in-service day, which was reclaimed as a snow makeup day. The snow make-up day will now be May 29, and school will be in session for all staff and students.

“This day will allow us to bring national and local experts to review our current practices and introduce new learning,” the letter said. “It will also give our staff the opportunity to work with each other to address a variety of scenarios and work through this difficult and challenging topic.”
