U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary offers winter boating safety courses at Evesham Fire Department

Choose either a two day session on Feb. 7 and Feb. 8, or one, full-day session on Feb. 10.

The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, Marlton, NJ, Flotilla, is heating things up by offering winter classes for the required Boating Safety Course at Evesham Fire and Rescue, 26 E. Main St.

Those interested can choose either the two day session, on Wednesday, Feb. 7 and Thursday, Feb. 8, from 8 a.m. to noon, or they can choose one, full-day session on Saturday, Feb. 10, from 8 a.m . to 5 p.m.

The Auxiliary strictly adheres to the eight hour instruction time as mandated by the New Jersey State Police, Marine Division. Boaters who successfully complete the course will be awarded the New Jersey boating certificate, required by the New Jersey State Police for New Jersey boaters and personal watercraft operators.

Students will learn basic navigation rules, boating terminology and safe boat handling, trailering, safety equipment and New Jersey boating regulations. A $65 fee covers textbook and numerous additional informative handouts.

“We’re proud of the fact that over the past few years our Flotilla has made it possible for hundreds of boaters to earn their boating certificate,” said lead instructor Mark Rubino. “Our Coast Guard Auxiliary members are qualified Auxiliary Crew members, bringing a wide range of skills to the course, including backgrounds in power boating, sailing, emergency medical care, navigation, radio communications and more. We frequently serve the regular Coast Guard as radio and Coast Guard Cutter watch standers, in ‘Helo-Ops’ teams, on Auxiliary on-water patrols and many other duties.”

Boaters should register by contacting Rubino at (609) 364–0929.

The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, founded in 1939, is the uniformed, volunteer arm of the United States Coast Guard. Auxiliary duties include: Promote and improve Recreational Boating Safety, provide trained crews and facilities to augment the Coast Guard and enhance safety and security of our ports, waterways, and coastal regions and support Coast Guard operational, administrative, and logistical requirements.
