The most recent story on The Sun’s top 10 most read stories list ran about two weeks ago. Earlier this month, Cherry Hill Public Schools Superintendent Joe Meloche was named as a 2018 “Leaders to Learn From” by Education Week, a national education newspaper.

After this honor was announced, the Sun sat down with Meloche to talk about his career and his decision to pursue new initiatives and ideas as Cherry Hill’s school superintendent.

“Part of my focus is to try to be one community, that we are one Cherry Hill,” Meloche said.

Meloche talked about his educational career, from the time he learned he wanted to be a teacher all the way through his journey in Cherry Hill, where he served as principal at the three schools he attended as a child. Meloche still lives in Cherry Hill with his wife and four daughters and said he understands how important a high quality education is to its residents.

“When my parents moved here, it was because of the school,” Meloche said. “When people move here, by and large that is the reason.”

Education Week will publish a full feature story on Meloche in February. Meloche hopes his recognition helps spread the district’s philosophy of listening to everyone’s voice to other districts across the country.
