Cherry Hill Public Library’s new Genealogy Research Center dedicated to volunteers

The opening of the Cherry Hill Public Library’s Genealogy Research Center last Tuesday also marked the end of an era for the Friends of the Cherry Hill Public Library. The Genealogy Center was made possible thanks to $15,000 in funds left over from the Friends of the Cherry Hill Public Library’s gift shop. The gift shop closed earlier this year after more than a decade of operation.

Cherry Hill West Theater gets into the holiday spirit with its December musical, “A Christmas Carol.”

Cherry Hill West Theater will be getting into the holiday spirit on Dec. 15 when its December musical, “A Christmas Carol,” takes the stage. The show will be performed through Dec. 17 at the Cherry Hill West new auditorium. This year’s cast features students from Cherry Hill’s middle and elementary schools in addition to Cherry Hill West students. Numerous members of the cast believe it is the most vocally challenging show they have performed yet.

Township Council reintroduced revised ordinance regarding the Hampton Road Redevelopment site

Cherry Hill Township Council is moving forward with a revised plan for the Hampton Road redevelopment area. Council approved an ordinance on first reading for the Hampton Road redevelopment. There were numerous changes made to the plan from when it was tabled in July. The changes include the preservation of approximately 2.8 acres of open space, the reduction of 48 units, lowering the total height of the buildings and shifting the internal access roadway away from the Still Park neighborhood.

Four women join the Knitted Knockers movement in Cherry Hill

A group of community members have brought a volunteer-run organization to Cherry Hill. Knitted Knockers, a national volunteer-run organization founded in 2011, serves women who have undergone mastectomies or other breast removal surgeries. Volunteers from across the country participate by knitting “knockers” woven out of machine washable cotton yarn and incorporated with stuffing. Denise Weinberg has helped form a group to bring the project to South Jersey.

Police: Two men arrested on human trafficking, prostitution charges operated out of Cherry Hill, other locations

A pair of men arrested by the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s office last week are accused of coercing six women into a forced servitude as prostitutes in a human trafficking ring. Kenneth Crowell, 34, and Barry “Bear” Schiff, 50, were arrested on charges that included trafficking in individuals, corrupt organizations, involuntary servitude, conspiracy, possession with intent to deliver, prostitution and related offenses. Two victims who testified to a grand jury said they worked for the two men out of a Cherry Hill hotel.
