Cherry Hill residents will have the opportunity to engage with their community in a handful of holiday events. From visiting Barclay Farmstead to the holiday lighting ceremony, community members are encouraged to join in the festivities.
Barclay Farmstead Holiday House
Friends at Barclay Farmstead have decorated one of Cherry Hill’s historical homes to reflect a warm and subtle holiday house this year. Residents should expect to see a plethora of candles, dim lighting and garland hanging from the banisters. Barclay Farmstead is hosting its annual Holiday House on Friday, Dec. 1, from 10 a.m to 9 p.m. at 209 Barclay Lane.
The night continues with a wine tasting from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Holiday House continues Saturday, Dec. 2, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Silhouette Cutter will be in attendance from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m where the cutter will create profile pictures of guests using black cardstock paper. Guests will also be able to get into the spirit of the holidays by meeting Santa from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The weekend will close on Sunday, Dec. 3, with guests being able to view the decor from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Admission will be a suggested $5 cash donation collected at the door.
“It really is the hidden gem people can come explore,’’ Director of Township Recreation Department Megan Brown said.
Holiday lighting ceremony
On Monday, Dec. 11 at 6:30 p.m., Mayor Chuck Cahn along with the town council will begin the holiday season with a celebration commemorating the start of Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and Christmas. Santa will also make an appearance at the Carman Tilelli Community Center.
“We like to think of it as a nice way to kick off the holidays as a community,’’ Brown said. East and West high school choirs will be in attendance in addition to area youth choirs and musicians.
“There are a variety of events planned this holiday season for Cherry Hill residents of all ages and faiths. As 2017 comes to an end, our annual tree and menorah lighting ceremony, as well as the many other holiday events we have planned throughout town, give us a chance to come together as a community and celebrate all we have to be thankful for,” Cahn said.
Jewish Community Center events
The JCC is hosting a Community Chanukah Celebration on Tuesday, Dec. 19, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The JCC encourages members to be a Chanukah hero at the annual Chanukah Celebration. Train like a superhero with Judah Macabee, sing Chanukah songs with Miss Jill, enjoy a Latke bar and hands-on learning with STEAM activities. Admission is $15 per JCC family and $20 per guest family. Members and non-members will be able to enjoy some Chinese food at the Laughter and Lo Mein event held Sunday, Dec. 24, 6:30 p.m. Residents are encouraged to partake in the annual Chinese food and comedy night. The JCC is hosting an annual Character Breakfast on Monday, Dec. 25, at 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The JCC encourages members to attend a pajama dance party with Elmo, a princess and Poppy and Branch from Trolls. The JCC is hosting a memorable event where members and guests can show off dance moves and get active. At some point during the event, a zumbini class will be held by instructor Chelsey Corsey. Those attending are also encouraged to enjoy some complimentary bagels during the bagel breakfast portion of the event. “It’s a very lively event,’’ Marketing Director Stephanie Dworkin said.

Library hosting Harry Potter Yule Ball
The library is hosting the Harry Potter Yule Ball on Thursday, Dec. 14 at 6:30 p.m. Guests will be able to dance in a Hogwarts inspired setting. Dress robes or costumes are encouraged. The event is open to kids in grades six to 12.
“I love Harry Potter. We have held many Harry Potter events over the years, this will be a fun one,” said Melissa Brinn, the teen librarian in charge of the event.
