Burlington County Farmland Preservation Program reaches two milestones

With two new farms preserved last week, Burlington County has now preserved 250 farms and more than 30,000 acres of farmland.

The Burlington County Farmland Preservation Program reached two milestones last week, as the Burlington County Board of Chosen Freeholders and Burlington County Department of Resource Conservation continues to preserve farmland and open space.

With two new farms preserved last week, Burlington County has now preserved 250 farms and more than 30,000 acres of farmland.

Launched in 1985, the Burlington County Farmland Preservation Program is credited with giving Chesterfield Township, Burlington County, the distinction of being home to the first five farms preserved in New Jersey.

The county program has since preserved farms in 21 municipalities.

The two new farms preserved last week include Fenimore Farm, Pemberton Township (adjacent to JBMDL), as the 249th farm with an addition of 74 acres, and Bassett Farm, Chesterfield Township, as the 250th farm with an addition of 40 acres.

Additional information regarding the county’s Farmland Preservation Program can be found online at http://co.burlington.nj.us/196/Farmland-Preservation.
