Students participate in community service project by donating Halloween candy

Students are encouraged to donate their candy back to the cause from Nov. 1 through Nov. 8

Hundreds of elementary-aged students who participated in the sixth annual Trunk or Treat — sponsored by the Changing Our World Project, FutureActs Clubs, Washington Township Education Association and the Washington Township Rotary on Oct. 28 — are encouraged to donate some of their candy back to the cause from Nov. 1 to Nov. 8.

Each elementary school will receive one hour of community service in the annual Jefferson Awards competition for each pound of candy that is returned.

Members of each school’s elementary Future Acts Club will then create care packages with the candy. These care packages will be distributed to area Ronald McDonald houses, hospitals, veteran homes and facilities, social service programs and senior centers in the Washington Township area. It is hoped the efforts will yield more than 3,000 bags, which will be shared throughout the community.
