In addition to raising money for the association, entrants and spectators can bring children’s books for needy children.
For many Marlton residents, the fall season might bring about thoughts of fallen leaves, cool air and shorter days.
Yet for the students of the Cherokee High School Racing Association, the fall season means it’s time to start revving up for the group’s annual fall car show.
Sunday, Oct. 29 marks the 24th annual fall car show for the racing association, and once again car lovers of all kinds are invited to drive their wheels to Cherokee for a few hours to show off their rides alongside other gearheads.
Whether it’s classic cars, sports cars, muscle cars, compacts, exotics, low riders or anything in between, students are looking for entries from all makes and models for their show.
“Everybody is welcome,” said Erika Heinrich, a senior at Cherokee and member of the racing association. “The more the merrier. Any make or model, import or domestic, we love seeing everybody come out.”
Founded in 1993, the Cherokee High School Racing Association gives boys and girls from all grades at Cherokee the chance to learn about automobile maintenance by working with one another under the guidance of advisors.
In addition to trading car tips and advice, the members of the club get the chance to work on and race the club’s 1968 Camaro racecar at the nearby Atco Raceway.
“We fix it up and see what can be improved and it’s basically just a drag racer,” Heinrich said.
Heinrich said this year’s fall show also comes after the racing association’s inaugural “Spring Fling” car show in April, which Heinrich said was a big success and brought more than 120 cars to Cherokee for the event.
As in past years, Heinrich said the upcoming fall show would serve as a fundraiser to benefit the racing association and its work.
In addition, Heinrich said members of the racing association are hoping to use this year’s show to provide support to needy kids in Camden by collecting children’s books to donate to Center For Family Services, a nonprofit human services agency.
Heinrich said entrants and spectators for this year’s show could bring any new or gently used children’s books to Cherokee on the day of the show.
“The Center For Family Services just gives the books away. I was hoping we could raise some for the kids and really help them out,” Heinrich said.
The Cherokee High School Racing Association Fall Car Show will take place at Cherokee High School from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 29.
Those who want to enter a car in the show can arrive on the day of the event and pay the registration fee of $15.
Spectators enter for free, and pets are also allowed and encouraged for the event as well. The event will also feature food vendors and other fun.
“It’s super fun,” Heinrich said. “You get to have a nice day out, and it lets you spend some time in the fresh fall air and see a bunch of cool cars.”
