High School Sports Roundup: Field Hockey remains second in division, Girls Soccer tops R.V., and more

The Burlington Township field hockey team remained second in the BCSL Liberty Division, going 1–1 this week so far. The Lady Falcons breezed past Pemberton on Monday, Oct. 2 by a score of 8–0.
Five players got on the scoresheet, while Gracyn Banks, Vanessa DiDonato, and Christyana Kane each netted two goals apiece. Haley Bucci made four saves in the shutout win.
Despite a hard-fought effort on Wednesday, BT fell 2–1 to division leaders Moorestown. Kane had the lone goal in the road defeat, while Bucci made 18 saves. The Lady Falcons (8–2–1) are back in action on Friday, Oct. 6, welcoming Northern Burlington to town.
Girls Soccer fight back, top Rancocas Valley in Siani Strong Game
Following a tough 1–0 defeat to Steinert on Friday, Sept. 29, the Burlington Township Lady Falcons soccer team showed huge spirit this week.
Kim Lamanteer’s side fought back from a 1–0 halftime deficit on Tuesday against Rancocas Valley, to win 2–1. It was the fourth annual Siani Strong game, which is in remembrance of former BT soccer player and student Siani McCurry. McCurry a recovering leukemia patient, passed away in January 2014 due to complications from her bone marrow transplant.
A pair of goals from Caitlin Mbuakoto was all the hosts needed to complete the comeback and earn the victory. Erin Turpin made 10 saves as well.
The Lady Falcons (7–2) travel to Pemberton on Oct. 5 before facing Delran on Oct. 6. Both games are slated to kick off at 3:45 p.m.
BT Football looks to continue climb up the standings
Following a lopsided defeat against Lenape two weeks ago, the Burlington Township football team bounced back by defeating Hightstown 32–20 on Sept. 28.
Quarterback Daniel Grozozski threw for 187 yards and one touchdown, while the Falcons rushed for three scores on the evening. Semi Roberton led the way with 93 yards on 25 carries and a score.
Justin Johnson scampered for two scores on the ground too. A 14-point fourth quarter pulled the Falcons away from their opponents.
BT (3–1) return home this weekend for the first of a two-game homestand. They face off with Hopewell Valley (0–4) on Oct. 6 with kickoff slated for 7 p.m.
