Happenings at the Medford Library Association

The MLA shares some events going on this month.

The summer heat lingered into the first days of autumn, but fall weather seems to have finally arrived. With the very active hurricane season we have had to date, many of us are hoping the end of the season will be less active.

It is not too late to come to the library tonight at 6:30 for a session of Resume Writing 101 and Career Readiness Training. Christine Tomkus and Tracy Vargas will be discussing the “how to’s” of resume content writing and career readiness tips and strategies. The last 30 minutes will be dedicated to individuals with more specific skills.

Our new three week series of Beginning Calligraphy and Lettering will begin on October 10 at 6:00 and continue October 17 and 24. What better way to spend time slowing down, remembering to breathe by discovering the gentler way of lettering? Writing a quote that gives meaning to our lives, a positive quote to reinforce the good as well as to remind us to be kind to ourselves. The program will be led by Maureen Peters, past president of the Philadelphia Calligraphers Society. Patrons will be signing up for all three weeks.

Are you an aspiring author? Have you tried to publish a manuscript, but were shocked by the cost? On Saturday, October 14 at 10:30, local author Joseph Badame (“My Teacher, My Bride”) will offer advice of using the service Smashwords to get your manuscript published. If you offer the e-books free of charge, then you pay nothing. If you intend to sell your works, they require 15% of the cost.

On October 19 at 6:30, BCLS Brewers’ Book Club will be meeting at Lower Forge Brewery on Main Street in Medford. With Halloween approaching, read a horror book or collection of stories and be ready to discuss all the gruesome details. This is a low commitment book club in partnership between the Burlington County Library System and Lower Forge Brewery.

Until next time, keep turning those pages and enjoy the cooler fall weather.
