PSE&G preparing to replace gas pipes around Cherry Hill

PSE&G is expected to begin the project on Haddonfield-Berlin Road beginning this month. Work is scheduled to continue around the township through the end of the year.

PSE&G will conduct a project to upgrade aging gas pipes in Cherry Hill beginning in September. The project will begin on Haddonfield-Berlin Road, between Brace Road and Haddontowne Court, and then continue onto various streets throughout the town.

“The exact location of work for this project will be changing all the time, and could cause unexpected traffic in some residential areas,” Camden County Freeholder Susan Shin Angulo said. “Motorists and residents can stay up-to-date on which streets will be affected by checking PSE&G’s website, and they’ll be notified directly before work begins on their street.”

Construction will take place between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and gas main replacement is expected to continue until the end of the year, with paving then continuing into spring of 2018. Short-term road closures are expected, but residents will always have access to driveways. The work is part of a three-year plan to upgrade 510 miles of aging infrastructure throughout New Jersey.

To upgrade gas lines, PSE&G digs trenches in the road surface and lays new pipes block-by-block. At the end of each work day, the trenches are filled and secured with protective plates which can be safely walked on or driven over.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. For a list of affected streets and to watch a brief video about the work, residents and motorists can visit www.pseg.com/gaswork. When the work begins, residents may also speak to the supervisor on site or call (856) 573–2033 and leave a message.
