Mt. Laurel Firefighter’s Foundation dedicates 9/11 memorial featuring steel from World Trade Center
This week officials held a dedication ceremony for the new “Sept. 11, 2001 NEVER FORGET Memorial” in front of the Mt. Laurel Fire Department Headquarters on Elbo Lane. The memorial features a 17-foot steel I-beam from the ruins of the World Trade Center complex, along with limestone from the Pentagon.
Former Mount Laurel Police Chief honored for service after retiring from 25 years with department
Mt. Laurel Township publicly said goodbye to its former chief of police this week when former Chief Dennis Cribben Jr. was honored at a township council meeting for his retirement after 25 years with the Mt. Laurel Township Police Department. Cribben also praised and offered his support to his successor, former Deputy Chief Stephen Riedener, who was also publicly sworn-in as the township’s new chief of police at the meeting.
NJEA recognizes Lenape High School teacher for providing welcoming environment for students
According to district officials, Lenape High School world language teacher Nicholas Orphanos was recently recognized by New Jersey Education Association as an educator who makes the school and community a welcoming environment for all students, regardless of language or background. Lenape math teacher Tom Tamburello, who nominated Orphanos for the award, said Orphanos is a Spanish teacher and speaker who teaches all levels of students, from accelerated to students with disabilities.
Burn Boot Camp Mt. Laurel hosting second annual Alex’s Lemonade Stand on Sept. 24
In an effort to raise funds and awareness for the fight against childhood cancer, Burn Boot Camp Mt. Laurel will host its second annual Alex’s Lemonade Stand on Sunday, Sept. 24 at 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Laurel Acres Park. At the same time, Burn also host free boot camps for kids and families. Burn is a fitness facility that caters to like-mind women geared towards self-improvement through fitness and health.
Lenape Regional High School District to host ‘Health & Wellness Fair’ on Oct. 9
The Lenape Regional High School District invites area businesses, organizations and professionals in the health and wellness fields to participate in the district’s Health and Wellness Fair on Oct. 9 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Cherokee High School. According to the district, the district is organizing the Health Fair as part of a full day in-service for all certified staff members to coincide with the theme of this academic year, #LRHSDBetterU.
