Mayor’s Message — Property Tax Rewards, new business and Township Rocks

Shop Washington Township informational meeting for businesses scheduled for Sept 21.

Nazzarena Gurcsik holds the Washington Township rock she found, awarded with a lunch with Mayor Joann Gattinelli as a prize.

Shop Washington Township Informational Town Hall Meeting

I am happy to announce we are completing steps to move forward with the Shop Washington Township Property Tax Reward Program. We will be holding a special Informational Town Hall Meeting for businesses to hear how they can participate in the Shop Washington Township Program on Sept. 21 at 6 p.m. at the Municipal Building. This Property Tax Rewards Program benefits both businesses and residents by rewarding residents who patronize Washington Township businesses. I would like to invite and encourage all businesses to come hear about the program from the Property Tax Card representatives and ask any questions they may have.

Businesses who attend will have the opportunity to be one of the first businesses advertised to residents. There is no commitment necessary to attend the Town Hall meeting. Our goal is to make sure township businesses have all the information they need to feel comfortable participating. This event is open to all residents, although the information will be geared toward those who own/manage businesses in Washington Township. Please spread the word to any businesses you know of who may be interested, or you feel would be a valuable addition to the program. I look forward to seeing everyone there.

Darts of War

A business that I am pleased to welcome to Washington Township is Darts of War, a new Nerf Arena that is the only one of its kind in the South Jersey area. With 24,000 square feet of play space, this gives the children in Washington Township a place to actively and safely have fun with their peers. They are located at 5360 Route 42 in Turnersville. Be sure to bring the kids for a fun-filled day to enjoy. I am glad this unique business has opened in Washington Township and wish them much success in our community.

Township Rocks lunch

On Sept. 1, I was excited to congratulate six year old resident, Nazzarena Gurcsik for finding our Washington Township rock for #TwpRocks. A few weeks ago, we presented a proclamation to the two women who spearheaded the “#TwpRocks” on Facebook. That week, I presented a special rock with the township’s official logo for someone to find and announced that the child, along with a parent/guardian could schedule a lunch with me. I was excited to meet with the young resident, Nazzarena and her father, after she found the rock at the Old Stone House. We met for lunch at Nazzarena’s favorite restaurant, Amalfi’s, and had great lunch conversation. We discussed school, riding bikes with her sister and other things she enjoys about being a kid in Washington Township. I enjoyed the conversation, the company and the fact #TwpRocks encourages a sense of community we want to foster in Washington Township.

Joann Gattinelli is the mayor of Washington Township. She can be reached at [email protected].
