The South Jersey Athletic Club will welcome Jack Heath, author of the new book “Browning Ross: Father of American Distance Running,” to its next open meeting. The presentation is free and open to the public and will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 13 at 8 p.m. in Grace Episcopal Church’s Parish Hall.
Browning Ross was a High School National Champion Miler, an NCAA Champion at Villanova University, a two-time Olympian, a gold medal winner at the Pan American Games and an eight-time National Champion runner. He was also a founder of the Road Runners Club of America, started the first national running magazine and directed thousands of races including a popular series that still bears his name. He also coached the US International Cross-Country team and was a successful high school and college coach.
Jack Heath had the privilege of running for and coaching with Browning Ross. He has been a runner for more than forty years as well as a prolific writer on the sport.
The book can be purchased through Amazon, and he will be happy to sign any copies brought to the event. Grace Church is located at 19 Kings Highway East in Haddonfield.
