Health Sciences Center at Rowan College at Burlington County to be unveiled for public Aug. 29

The event is part of RCBC’s Celebration of Transformation happenings that highlight its new campuses, amenities and offerings.

Rowan College at Burlington County will unveil its new, “state-of-the-art” Health Sciences Center at its Mt. Laurel Campus on Tuesday, Aug. 29, at 5 p.m.

The Health Sciences Center opening is free, open to the public and will feature a live emergency simulation involving multiple Health Sciences programs and Virtua’s Paramedic Science program at 5:30 p.m.

“The Burlington County Board of Chosen Freeholders is proud to join the college and its healthcare partners in the unveiling of the new Health Sciences Center,” said Burlington County Freeholder Director Bruce Garganio. “This state-of-the-art facility represents a wealth of opportunity for our community to get the education and training they need for the county’s growing healthcare industry.”

RCBC turned the former Briggs Road Center into the Health Sciences Center and reoriented the building’s exterior so that the entrance now faces College Drive better integrating it into the rest of the campus.

As part of the campus transformation and transition from the Pemberton Campus, RCBC moved all of the Health Sciences programs to the Health Sciences Center, including nursing, dental hygiene, imaging and health information management courses, as well as the Virtua Paramedic Science at RCBC program.

According to the college, RCBC’s enhanced partnership with Virtua is one of the key initiatives that resulted in RCBC’s first enrollment increase in five years in spring 2017, including a 14 percent increase in Health Sciences enrollment.

“We are confident that this relationship will have a significant impact for RCBC students by aligning classroom instructions with clinical learning. Producing a highly skilled workforce will also benefit healthcare providers looking to fill vacancies and the community by providing quality care,” said Alfred Campanella, Virtua’s executive vice president for strategic business growth and analytics.

Benefits of Virtua’s partnership with RCBC includes clinical placements for students, tuition benefits for Virtua associates who attend RCBC, Fitness Center discounts for students and RCBC associates, and close collaboration on program development.

“Rowan College at Burlington County and Virtua have brought the future of healthcare education to the modern community college,” RCBC President Paul Drayton said. “With the addition of the Health Sciences Center, RCBC has transformed into the regional destination for anyone who wants a rewarding career in healthcare or to take their education further with innovative programs such as our 3+1 nursing program in partnership with Rowan University.”

According to the college, RCBC’s 3+1 program allows students to save $75,000 on a bachelor’s degree while earning a Rowan University degree.

Students stay at RCBC after completing their associate degree and complete 75 percent of their university credits with RCBC before finishing their senior year as a Rowan University student.

The 3+1 nursing program will begin this fall. For more information, visit rcbc.edu/3plus1.

The community and prospective students will be able to tour the building, get information about Health Sciences programs and meet faculty and students from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Health Sciences Center unveiling.

The event is part of RCBC’s Celebration of Transformation happenings that highlight its new campuses, amenities and offerings.
