HMHS 2017 parking sees construction shakeup

The school district has asked the borough to designate certain streets in the vicinity of the high school as “Permit Parking Only” on certain days and times.

According to a letter from the Haddonfield Board of Education released on Monday, Aug. 21, the school district has asked the borough to designate certain streets in the vicinity of the high school as “Permit Parking Only” on certain days and times. An enabling ordinance will take effect on Tuesday, Sept. 5 to allow Haddonfield Memorial High School staff to park relatively close to the school.

“The Board of Education acknowledges that the construction at all four school sites is disruptive and will cause inconvenience, but is confident that the end result will significantly enhance the quality of the school experience for all,” the letter reads.

The ordinance will cover the following streets:

  • Kings Highway E, from Evergreen to the Haddonfield-Cherry Hill border
  • Sylvan Lake Avenue including the circle at the end of Sylvan Lake
  • Roberts Avenue from Kings Highway to Springfield
  • Belmont Avenue from Roberts to Potter

The restrictions on Kings Highway, Roberts and Belmont will remain in effect until January 31, 2018, according to the letter. The restrictions on Sylvan Lake are expected to last longer.

Those needing to obtain permits will be contacted directly. The school district and the borough are encouraging parents and students to make “drive and drop” plans prior to the first day of school.

Vehicles parked in permit-only areas without a permit will be ticketed.
