Ten years ago, Moorestown Business Association (MBA) established a scholarship program to acknowledge Moorestown High School seniors interested in pursuing a business major in college and who have demonstrated extraordinary achievement in extracurricular and or community activities. The MBA scholarship committee spends a significant amount of time searching for the best candidates, using criteria that includes GPA and a passion for business. Two scholarship winners are blindly selected each year through a review of submitted applications. The 2017 MBA Scholarship awardees are Reeves Balderson and Alexandra Bewley.

After the research and development of his award-winning science fair project about water led him to study the business aspects of clean water viability, Balderson took a variety of business classes in high school to determine the fields that interested him most. First the stock market and then sports marketing and sports analytics caught his attention. The top student honed his skills and ultimately landed a summer job with the Philadelphia Phillies organization where he is learning as much as possible before heading to the University of Michigan to explore all areas of business.

Bewley was hooked as soon as she took her first high school business course and then pursued and excelled in every related class she could fit into her schedule. She also spent many after-school hours working with local non-profits and began to look at the business world through the prism of community service. She has held leadership positions in the Moorestown High School’s Interact Service Club; MooreKids, which focusses on food programs for disadvantaged youth and in the Moorestown Parks & Recreation Department. Her goal is to combine her desire to help others with a career in business. Bewley will be attending St. Joseph’s University in the fall where she plans to major in food marketing.

Balderson and Bewley were notified about their MBA scholarships during Moorestown High School’s Senior Award Ceremony just before they graduated from Moorestown High School this summer. The MBA Board congratulates the association’s 2017 scholarship winners,
